BOONETOWN – Buford’s road trip to Class A foe North Central resulted in a pair of losses to the Knights on Friday night.In the opener, the NC girls downed the Lady Jackets 39-27. The BHS boys dropped a 72-62 loss to the Knights.In the boys’ game, the third period proved to be the difference.North Central held a 37-35 edge at the break and came out with a crucial 14-5 run in the third period to take a 51-40 lead.“We came out a little flat in the second half and had some key turnovers,” BHS coach Jeff Moyer said. “That puts us in the hole, but our guys fought back and won the final period 22-21.“I like the valiant effort we had, but we have to have it for four quarters against a good team like North Central,” Moyer said.Jabari Williams led the Jackets with 13 points. JoJo Morris and Qua Reid netted 10 points each.Andrew Riner and Blake Larrimore tallied nine points each. Will Ford finished with five points.Donald Kirkley, Deon Wright and Anthony Williams chipped in two points each.North Central was led by Greg Caldwell’s 23 points. Laquan Murphy chipped in 19 and Ronte Drakeford added 14.In the opener, North Central was able to forge an early lead and stayed on top for the 12-point win.The Lady Knights held a 19-12 lead at the break and led 32-20 after three periods.Merrisike Lee led the Lady Knights with 16 points.Buford, 0-7, was paced by Brittany McCarter’s 14 points. Amanda Truesdale netted six and Shaniqua Blakeney had four points. Kendall Boone scored two and Janay Blackmon added one.Buford travels to Lewisville on Tuesday for a non-league twin bill with the Lions.BHS will play in two holiday tournaments next week.The Lady Jackets play in the Cheraw tournament which opens Wednesday and continues to Friday.The Jackets play in the Carolina Classic at North Central where play opens Thursday.Buford splitsThe Buford Yellow Jackets used a balanced scoring attack to take a 48-39 win over McBee on Thursday night at BHS.The Jackets’ nine-point win gave Buford a split. The Lady Jackets, 0-6, dropped a 28-26 loss to the Lady Panthers.In the boys’ game, JoJo Morris and Qua Reid each hit 13 points to pace Buford. Morris netted 11 in the second half when BHS took control of the game.BHS led 20-16 at the half and stretched it lead to 34-27 after three periods before taking the victory.Jabari Williams tallied 11. Blake Larrimore scored five. Will Ford, Donald Kirkley and Deon Wright added two points each.The Panthers were paced by Ladarius Newton, who tallied 15 points.Newton was 8-8 at the foul line.In the opener, the Lady Panthers held on for a narrow win.Marquisha Hayden’s trey missed the mark late in the game and MHS took the win.“I was real proud of our girls tonight with the way they played with heart and hustle,” BHS coach Michelle Vestal said. “This was a tough loss.”BHS held a 14-13 lead at the break, but McBee took a 22-20 lead after three periods.Brittany McCarter led the Lady Jackets with 11 points and Janay Blackmon chipped in seven points. Amanda Truesdale tallied three points. Hayden finished with three and Lauren Pearson chipped in two.Kayla Dopont paced the Lady Panthers with a game-high 13 points.
