Twenty-six teams took on the course at Carolina Lakes Golf Club in the sixth annual Indian Land Rotary Cup Golf Tournament on May 10.

“Everyone was fired up about a shot at a new Porsche (Boxster offered by Hendrick Porsche) with the perfect swing on Hole No. 7,” said tournament chairman Steve Ness. “Paul Prior came the closest, missing by a couple feet.”

Other closest-to-the-pin winners were Chip Kerr on Hole No. 4, Jim Hawks on Hole No. 12 and Wayne Felder on Hole No. 16.

The team of Kevin Lanier, Donald Pittman, Billy Powers and Terry Honeycutt captured first place and $600 in the captain’s choice charity tourney.

Jersey Mike’s provided sack lunches, the Rock Hill Coke distributor provided soft drinks and water and  DIAGEO-Guinness USA through Carolina Premium Beverages provided beer during the tournament.

At the end of the day, tourney participants “feasted over a great meal donated by 521 BBQ,” Ness said, as the winners were announced and drawings held for a number of donated prizes.

Larry McCullough held the winning ticket for a framed photo of Jack Nicklaus waving from the bridge at Old St. Andrews. Five other raffle prizes found new homes and 10 more special player drawings led to many smiles.

All players received a free round of golf  and goodie bags stuffed with coupons and other freebies.

“All 106 players left full of wonderful food, drink and fun golf and also knowing they had played a role in raising more than $9,000 for the services Rotary provides to the Indian Land community,” Ness said.

“The other group critical to our success was our outstanding group of sponsors,” Ness said.
