IL Warriors, Jackets post tourney crowns

Conference IV-AA wrestling tournament

Buford and Indian Land each captured individual championships in the Conference IV-AA wrestling tournament held Saturday at ILHS.

Buford won four titles, paced by Andrew Broome, Marcus Pressley, Dylan Altman and Zach Wright.

Broome fashioned a 3-0 record at 105, while Pressley, at 114, and Altman, at 121, were each 2-0. Zach Wright was 1-0 at 217.

The champion Warrior trio included George Morris (140), Rondreas Truesdale (160) and Marc Morris (heavyweight). IL’s Devin Curtsinger, Jared Smith, Jonathon Rowe, Brad Newell and Logan Creed each placed second.

Buford High School posted three runner-up wrestlers, including Josh Mullens, Eric McPhearson and James Mackey.

LHS matmen advance

Six Lancaster High School wrestlers advanced to the Class AAAA Upper State wrestling tournament after the Region III-AAAA tournament at Northwestern High School of Rock Hill on Friday.

Jeff Strickland, at 119, and Ervin Moore, the Bruins’ 215 pounder, led the LHS effort with each placing second in their respective weight classes.

Devanta Montgomery, at 140, finished third.

Johnathan Barber (160), Raheem Chambers (189) and Chris Stevenson (heavyweight) each placed fourth.

The top four wrestlers in each weight division advance to the Upstate field, which is set for Feb. 18-19 at Northwestern High School.

“”I was pretty pleased with our effort,” LHS coach Jeff Foo said. “I felt we did well.”
