Indian Land defeated county rival Buford in prep soccer, taking a 7-5 win over the Jackets on Tuesday night at Jackets Stadium.IL forged an early 4-0 lead before the Jackets rallied to make it an interesting finish.BHS charged back to make it a 6-5 match at one point.Anthony Sweatt scored two goals, with his second tally lifting IL to the hard-fought win.IL coach Adam Cole saluted Alfredo Lavieri, who had three assists, for opening up the field.Stefano Sojo, Luke Lambert and Sweatt each scored two goals to pace the Warriors.Emmanuel Mata added a goal for the winners.Lavieri notched three assists. Marco Mata, Lambert and Sojo each had one assist in the IL victory.Buford was led by Michael Childers who tallied three goals. John Michael Hayes had two goals and two assists. JoJo Morris added an assist.BHS keeper Andrew Riner posted six saves.“We have come a long way since the beginning of the year,” Cole said. “We have a lot to prove this year. Neither the team, nor myself want to settle for an average season.”The Warriors host Ninety Six tonight. Tyler Vaughn also worked in relief for AJ.Daniel Pardue led the offense with four hits, including two doubles, and scored three runs. Pace Roberts had two hits and drove in three runs. Justin Hinson had two hits and scored twice.Tyler Bradley added two hits.Vaughn had a hit and McKittrick ripped a double for the Vols, who improved to 5-2, 1-1.LHS booters fallThe Lancaster High School boys soccer team dropped a pair of close matches earlier this week.Clover edged the Bruins 1-0 in a Region III-AAAA match.“This was our best performance of the season,” LHS coach Bo Silvia said. “We were missing some major components, but we played well in the match.”On Monday, Hartsville edged LHS 2-1 in a match decided by penalty kicks.Ethan Kramer had the lone goal for the Bruins.Lancaster visits Rock Hill on Friday night in Region III-AAAA soccer play.Lady Warriors winIndian Land made the most of one run to top Class A’s No. 1 softball team McBee High School 1-0 on Tuesday.Hustling Paige Brugh scored on a groundout to lift IL to a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the third and the Lady Warriors made it stand in the win.The IL defense made no errors in support of winning hurler Kimber Coley, who posted a complete game, no-hit shutout.Brugh and Kristin Campbell each had a hit for the Lady Warriors, who improved to 3-4, 1-0.Buford golfers winBuford High School improved to 3-1 on the golf season, posting a 179-191 win over county rival Andrew Jackson on Thursday.Taylor Banks shot a 37 to lead Buford’s attack. Trevor Banks followed with a 42.Jalen Terry carded a 48 and Brandon Watts fashioned a 52 to round out the Jackets’ effort.AJ was led by seventh grader Jacob Bailey who shot a 43. Jerrick Spence had a 59 for Indian Land.Lady Bruins winLancaster evened its softball mark at 1-1 with a 3-1 win over Northwestern of Rock Hill on Wednesday night.Courtney Cauthen struck out 15 and allowed two hits in taking the win. She walked two.Cherrell Cousar rapped two hits and McKenzie Humphries had a double for LHS.Candice Benson, Elizabeth Jeffers and Crystal Catoe added a hit each.Clover forged an early 2-0 lead and held on for a 3-1 Region III-AAAA softball win over Lancaster.Courtney Cauthen took the loss, allowing two hits. The Lady Bruins face Buford at 9 a.m. LHS also has games at 1 and 3 p.m. in the tournament.Lancaster plays York on Monday and faces Fort Mill on Tuesday.Bruins golfers fourthThe Lancaster High golf team shot 176 to finish fourth in a four-way meet with Fort Mill, 146, Northwestern, 157, and York, 170.John Heath led the Bruins with a 42, while Will Riggins and Russ Faile each shot a 44.Pat Marshall finished with a 46 for the Bruins.Junior Warriors winThe Indian Land junior varsity soccer team built a 2-1 lead on the way to a 4-2 win over Buford.Elijah Roberts, Jonathan Rowe (penalty kick), Brandon Fairchild and Carson McGinn scored for the Junior Warriors. Derrick Lackore had an assist.Keepers Carson McGinn and Denis Killoran combined to stop 8 of 10 shots on goal. IL coach Tim Thornton saluted the defensive work by Killoran and Lackore in stifling the Junior Jackets offensive attack.
