IL resident proud to be a Democrat

-A A +A

I am proud to be a member of the Democratic Party because of what the party stands for.
u Civil rights – Every American should have the opportunity to fully participate in our society without fear of discrimination.
u Affordable health care – No one should go bankrupt just because they get sick. Every American should have access to basic health care. Democratic presidents have pushed for health reform over the years and will continue to do so.
u Education – As a Democrat, I believe that public education is the key to success for the future of our state and the United States of America. Where would our country be today without the G.I. Bill, legislation that provided World War II veterans with opportunities for higher education and helped create the middle class? Democrats have restructured and expanded college financial aid and made programs more efficient for students. President Barack Obama signed into law student loan reform that ended government subsidies to big banks and made colleges more affordable.
u Economy and jobs – The Recovery Act created more than 2 million jobs nationwide during its first year, according to several public and private forecasters, including the Council of Economic Advisors, Moody’s Economy and HIS Global. These jobs laid the groundwork for a new clean-energy economy and repaired roads, bridges and other infrastructure. The Recovery Act helped transform health information technology and made America more competitive for generations to come.
u National security – President Obama is focused on preventing terrorism. Under his leadership, Osama bin Laden, the man responsible for the attack on 9-11, was killed. Democrats are committed to ensuring that our troops have the training and equipment they need for deployment and the care they and their families need when they return home.
Democrats cut taxes for 95 percent of working families, provided help for homeowners and small businesses and strengthened consumer protections for people with credit cards and bank loans.
As a Democrat, I am just as concerned about the national debt as anyone else. It took decades to get into this mess and it will take a long time to fully recover. I feel that we are on the right path and we can’t take a chance on dipping back into a recession.
I do hope the people in South Carolina realize that Democrats want a balanced budget and a strong economy. We want a strong middle class and we support small businesses.
I would like to encourage everyone to register to vote. Your vote does count!
