Panhandle residents and business owners in the Indian Land and Pleasant Valley volunteer fire departments service areas will soon receive new tax bills to rectify overcharges in their fire protection district fees.
The new bills are in response to a tabulation mistake in which residents were charged $90 for their annual fire protection district fee instead of the correct $75 fee.
County officials were initially unsure how to proceed with correcting the mistake since there were no clear statutory fixes.
