Indian Land advanced to the Class AA Upper State semfinals before falling to eventual Upper State runner-up Crescent.

Liberty, the No. 2 team in the Class AA state poll by SCMAT, will face Lower State champion Bamberg-Ehrhardt for the AA state title on Saturday, Feb. 9 at Dreher High School. Liberty defeated Crescent for the Upstate title.

B-E defeated Aynor for the Class AA Lowcountry crown at Edisto High School on Saturday.

Indian Land, rated No. 11 and 21-11 for the season, opened the Upper State tournament at Powdersville High School in Greenville with a tight win over North Central High of Kershaw County.

The match with the Knights ended in a 30-all tie, but IL prevailed on criteria for the one-point win.

Indian Land advanced to face Columbia, a team it defeated in the Capitols’ gym on Tuesday, Jan. 29, and posted a 43-29 win over the Caps.

Indian Land, in its third match of the day, then faced Crescent and fell to the Tigers, 45-30.

The Warriors were led by four wrestlers who went 3-0 on the day.

Dylan Deese, the lone IL senior, notched three pins. Taylor Pendleton was 3-0 with two pins and a major decision.

Dalen Byerley had two pins on a 3-0 day and Eric Komorous had two pins and a decision for his 3-0 effort.

“I felt we could have done better,” IL coach Rondale Truesdale said. “I’m encouraged about our future because we have only one senior in Dylan Deese and some good young wrestlers moving up to our team.

“We just need to keep working hard to keep our program moving forward and push for a team state championship,” Truesdale said.

The Warriors will now focus on the Class AA individual Upstate championship which will be held Feb. 15-16 at Liberty High School. The Class AA individual state finals are Feb. 22-23 in Anderson.
