Those of us who have seen the movie “Riding in Cars with Boys” are aware of the hardships teenager mothers face.
In the movie, Drew Barrymore’s character, Beverly D’Onofrio, was forced to put her aspirations of attending New York University and becoming a writer on hold after getting pregnant in high school.
She also struggled to balance raising a young child with receiving a high school diploma and getting a decent job. The movie took place in Connecticut during the 1960s, but it addresses an issue that is still occurring today in South Carolina.
