INDIAN LAND – There are only a few days left to sign up for a summer program that promises to provide educational and fun opportunities for children of various ages.

The Hi Kee Summer Enrichment Program will run from June 8 to July 17. The annual program, held at Steele Hill AME Zion Church, offers a variety of engaging activities to help students with reading, math and other skills.

It’s open to Lancaster County children in kindergarten through 12th grade.

It costs $25 per student to attend the program. The last day to sign up is Friday.

The big change this year is that the Hi Kee program will run five days a week instead of one, said Fred Witherspoon, executive director for Steele Hill Community Partners, the group sponsoring the program.

The expansion was made possible through recent grant money from Lancaster County Partners for Youth and the Springs Close Foundation.

Witherspoon said students are being accepted on a first-come, first-serve basis.

Although the program will run more days this year, just 50 students will be admitted.

Activities will include reading groups, arts programs and yoga sessions.

“They can expect a very positive, nurturing and enriching summer experience,” Witherspoon said.
