The S.C. Department of Employment and Workforce (DEW) was unable to release its monthly unemployment figures for the state last week – and it’s the federal government’s fault.
Or more precisely, it is a result of the 16-day shutdown of the federal government.
According to a press release issued Oct. 17, the day Congress and the White House reached a deal to reopen the government, DEW was unable to calculate September’s employment figures because it didn’t have the data from the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics.
