Girl, 5, dies from injuries in car crash

A 5-year-old girl died from injuries sustained in a single car accident Friday, Aug. 15.

According to S.C. Highway Patrol Lance Cpl. David Jones, the collision occurred 10 p.m. Friday on Green Road off Great Falls Highway (S.C. 200), two miles east of the Town of Great Falls.

Goldie Jackson, 26, of 2042 Evans Drive, who was driving the 1996 GEO four-door vehicle, was not wearing a seat belt. Jackson was flown to Palmetto Health Richland in Columbia.

There were three passengers in Jackson’s vehicle, Jones said. 

Justice Jackson-Pope, the 5-year-old who was seated in the back seat of the car, was flown to Carolinas Medical Center in Charlotte where she died Saturday, Aug. 16. 

The young girl’s cause of death was listed as multiple blunt force injuries, said Lancaster County Deputy Coroner Karla Deese.

An eight year old male passenger in the back seat of Jackson’s vehicle also was flown to Palmetto Health Richland for his injuries. 

A 21-year-old male in the front passenger seat was wearing a seat belt and was not injured nor transported for medical assistance.

The collision remains under investigation by the S.C. Highway Patrol and S.C. Highway Patrol’s  Multi-disciplinary Accident Investigation Team (MAIT) which investigates complicated vehicle crashes, using state-of-the-art technology and analysis to reconstruct the scene.
