Prep football kicks off today in county, S.C.

The 2013 high school football season opens today as county schools kick off preparation for the upcoming season.
Each county school has a workout scheduled today, Aug. 2, the first day for preseason drills which open around the state.
Lancaster
Lancaster gets rolling early as Bruins head coach Bennie McMurray will greet his team at 8 a.m.
The Bruins will practice at 8 a.m. today, Saturday, Aug. 3, and Monday, Aug. 5.
Lancaster will then have three days of camp, Aug. 6-8, when players will sleep in the gym.
LHS opens its scrimmage schedule at 6 p.m. on Friday, Aug. 9, when the Bruins will work against host Chesterfield.
Lancaster will scrimmage at Chester on Aug. 12 when the Bruins face the host Cyclones at Westwood High of the Columbia area.
Lancaster plays in the first of two jamborees on Aug. 16 in Chester.
The Bruins will also play in the Founders Kickoff Classic on Aug. 23 when they meet Indian Land in the third period and host Buford in the final period.
LHS opens the season at Andrew Jackson on Aug. 30.

The Volunteers launch their preseason practice with a workout at 4 p.m. today. The afternoon session launches a full opening day slate for AJ.
Following the Vols’ practice, a barbecue fundraiser will be held at 6 p.m. in the AJ cafeteria.
At 8 p.m., a parents’ meeting will be held with AJ head coach David Moore and the Vols’ coaching staff.
The Vols’ first scrimmage is set for 6 p.m. Aug. 9 at Crestwood High of Sumter County. The scrimmage will also include Fort Mill and Lower Richland.
AJ plays in the Camden Shrine Jamboree on Aug. 16.
The Vols face Class A foe McBee High School at 6:45 p.m. in the Founders Kickoff Classic at Buford High School.
AJ launches its 2013 season Aug. 30 when the Vols host county rival Lancaster.
Buford
Buford opens its preseason practice with a workout today at 6 p.m.
The Jackets are scheduled to return to practice Saturday morning. BHS will hold its third practice on Monday.
The Jackets’ first scrimmage is scheduled for Batesburg-Leesville High School at 6 p.m. Aug. 9.
Buford is also scheduled to play in the Camden Shrine Jamboree on Aug. 16. The Jackets host the annual Founders Kickoff Classic on Aug. 23 when they face Lancaster in the final period of play.
BHS hosts Indian Land in its 2013 opener Aug. 30.
Indian Land
The Warriors open varsity football practice today. Warriors’ activities begin at 6 p.m. with a hotdog supper followed by a player-parent meeting. Indian Land kicks off practice with an evening session at 8 p.m. Students will stay at ILHS overnight, but will not sleep.
The Indian Land High coaching staff has numerous activities planed throughout the night. The Warriors’ second practice will be at 5 a.m. Saturday, followed by breakfast and dismissal at 7:30 a.m. Practices will resume at 4:30 p.m. Monday, Aug. 5, and continue through Thursday, Aug. 8. The Indian Land varsity team will scrimmage at 5 p.m. at Friday, Aug. 9, at Mid Carolina.
The Warriors host North Central in a scrimmage at 6 p.m. Aug. 13.
Indian Land will play in the Fort Mill jamboree, facing Nation Ford on Aug. 17. The Warriors battle Lancaster in the Founders Kickoff Classic on Aug. 23.
Indian Land opens its 2013 season with a road clash with county rival Buford on Aug. 30.
