Investigators arrested Eric Gaither, 26, 418 E. Arch St., on Monday, Oct. 7 on charges of kidnapping, armed robbery, possession of a firearm during the commission of a violent crime and possession of a firearm by a person convicted of a violent crime, according to a press release from Lancaster Police Capt. Scott Grant.

Through their investigation, police also identified a second Lancaster man involved in the shooting, but have not been able to find him.

Police have issued warrants for Rendell Cunningham, 30, address not available, on charges of  attempted murder, kidnapping, possession of a firearm during the commission of a violent crime and possession of a firearm by a person convicted of a violent crime, Grant said.

The charges stem from the shooting of a man at about 2 a.m. Oct. 4, shortly after the victim met a group of people he didn’t know.

The victim told officers he was on Eula Streem near the area of St. Paul and Thomas Lane when he was flagged down by an unknown man and two unknown women.

The man asked the victim to take him to a store to get some gas, which he did, Grant said.

“The victim stated that when they left the store the (man) pulled a gun out and robbed him,” Grant said in a release sent last week. “He stated the robber made him drive around and told him to empty his pockets.”

The victim said he was then forced to drive to some apartments in the area of Chesterfield Avenue.

“The victim stated that when he pulled in the parking lot, he tried to jump out of the vehicle and he was shot,” the release said.

He was taken by ambulance to Springs Memorial Hospital and later flown to Carolinas Medical Center in Charlotte. The victim was reportedly in stable condition last week with a gunshot wound to the back, though his current condition was unknown Tuesday, Oct. 8.

It is unknown if other arrests will be made in the case.

Police are still searching for Cunningham.

Anyone with information about his location, or any other information related to the shooting, is asked to call the Lancaster Police Department at (803) 283-1171 or the anonymous tip line at (803) 289 6040.
