October ended another successful season for the Lancaster Futbol Club U-17 girls team.

The team consisted of girls from Lancaster, Buford and Indian Land high schools as well as A.R. Rucker Middle School.

The LFC girls competed against teams from the Charleston, Rock Hill and Greenville-Spartanburg regions.

After struggling to find success in the 2009 season, the LFC ladies finished 2-2-4 for the 2010 season.

“Although we had so many tie games, we were controlling 70 percent of those matches,” said head coach Lon Christensen.

A highlight of the season was the LFC’s  home match played at the Springdale Recreation Complex where it rallied for a 2-1 win over Fort Mill, which took a 1-0 lead 20 minutes into the match.

In the second half, Lauren White and Ashley Cauthen each tallied goals for Lancaster, which rallied for the exciting win.

Lancaster capped its season with two matches against Summerville, posting a scoreless tie and a 2-0 win.

A year ago, Summerville defeated the Lancaster team, 9-0.

The LFC coaching staff credited the team’s success to a combination of the girls’ talent and ambition, as well as a new approach in the team’s training.

“The number one goal of The Lancaster Futbol Club is not simply to win games, but instead how to enjoy the game.

“This year we achieved that by building the confidence of the players, sharpening their skills, and expanding their knowledge of the game.

“Once that happened they were able to command great things to happen on the field and success began to show itself.” said Christensen, who was assisted by Bill Farrar.
