A Rock Hill man is wanted for assaulting a Lancaster resident with a pistol last weekend.
Officers are searching for Frederick Vidal Ross, 38, 1654 Nicholson Avenue, Rock Hill, in connection with the pistol-whipping and robbery of a 14th Street man late Sunday night.
Detectives with the Lancaster Police Department issued warrants on Ross for armed robbery and possession of a firearm during the commission of a violent crime.
“He is still at large,” said Sgt. Paul Smith, with the Lancaster Police Department. “He's listed in our system as a wanted person which means he's a fugitive.”
Ross is described as black, about 5-foot 6-inches to 5-foot 7-inches tall and weighing between 200 and 210 pounds, according to a police department release.
Smith said Ross is considered armed and dangerous.
“If someone sees him, do not try to approach him yourself,” Smith said. “Just call 911 and let the dispatcher know his whereabouts.”
The 41-year-old Lancaster man injured in the attack remains in critical condition at Carolinas Medical Center in Charlotte, Smith said.
The victim's roommate told police early Monday morning that the victim left late Sunday night to pay someone he owed money to, somewhere in the area of North Market Street, only blocks from the man's home.
When the victim came home, after 10 p.m., his roommate noticed something was wrong because the victim kept running to the bathroom, coughing and gagging, an incident report said.
When he asked his roommate what happened, the victim told him he had been hit in the head with a pistol, and his cigarettes and phone had been stolen.
A neighbor drove the man to Springs Memorial Hospital, though he was flown soon after to Carolinas Medical Center because his vital signs were dropping, the report said.
Hospital staff told officers the victim came to the hospital at almost 11 p.m. with a large cut on his left temple, a small right frontal bleed, temporal bone fracture and was throwing up blood.
