Freightliner steers away from county

Freightliner LLC is moving to York County, not Lancaster County, company officials say.

The company announced Thursday that it's moving 341 jobs to South Carolina to be closer to the truck manufacturer's customers and production sites. The division will move to a site on S.C. 274 in northern York County.

The heavy-truck subsidiary of German automaker Daimler AG said the move to Fort Mill affects about 10 percent of its Portland, Ore., work force, primarily in sales, marketing and dealer-support positions.
