The Lancaster Post 31 senior team dropped a 4-1 loss to Florence Post 1 in the Palmetto Legion Invitational in Florence on Friday, June 28.
Kam Dixon of Florence hurled a complete-game five-hitter in taking the win.
Lancaster’s Jordan Brock took the loss in a complete-game effort.
Florence took an early 2-0 lead, highlighted by Logan McRae’s solo home run in the second.
Lancaster sliced the Florence lead in half in the top of the fifth as Tripp Rollings, the Andrew Jackson High star who is headed to Spartanburg Methodist, doubled off the left field wall to score Jonah Crenshaw.
Post 1 answered in the fifth when Austin King drilled a two-run double.
Drew Hopper paced P-31 with two hits. Rollings had the RBI-double and Crenshaw had a hit and scored a run.
Skylar King and Trey Payne each added a hit for Lancaster.
“Jordan Brock threw well against a quality opponent,” Lancaster coach Marc Rape said. “This tournament is good experience for us as we head into the postseason.”
Lancaster, 8-4, continued play Saturday with a game with Whiteville, N.C., Post 137 and a game with Potomac Valley, (W. Va.).
Post 31, in its 70th season of American Legion baseball, will be at home for a League V twin bill with Rock Post 34 on Monday at 6 p.m.
Rock Hill had a twin bill rained out Thursday, June 27. It was reset for Friday, June 28.
A Lancaster League V win, or Rock Hill loss will give P-31 the regular-season league title.
The Lancaster senior team opens the playoffs July 8.
The Lancaster junior team, led by coach Gavin Flynn, wrapped up the League V baseball crown with a 10-0 home win over Clover Blue of Post 38 on Wednesday, June 26.
