A family of four was rescued early Saturday morning after their canoes capsized in the Catawba River.
Johnny Campbell, communications officer for the Lancaster County Rescue Squad, said the family, which included a husband and wife and their children, ages 17 and 9, had set out for a weekend camping trip.
Traveling in two canoes, the family was attempting to reach a barrier island in the Landsford Canal area, but encountered problems after traveling through some rapids.
“They got tangled up in the rapids and flipped over,” Campbell said.
