Family Promise of Lancaster County is in its fifth year, and the generosity of the community support that makes this ministry possible never ceases to amaze me.
There are 16 host sites manned by members of 20 churches and numerous volunteers. These volunteers greet our guests, provide meals for them, stay overnight with them, and transport them to and from the Family Promise Day Center.
These and many other volunteers help with fund-raising events necessary to fund Family Promise. We held a barbecue, “Heart for the Homeless,” on Feb. 15. Numerous people came together to plan, cook, bake, serve and deliver more than 800 plates of barbecue.
The work needed to pull off this event was tremendous, and to experience the hard work and gift of time given by so many is truly humbling.
To see that many people working that hard and laughing and joking all the while for a cause greater than themselves is a blessing you had to be a part of to experience.
To all of you who helped, thank you. Thank you for giving of your time and sharing the master’s love to help homeless families attain lasting independence.
To all of you who supported us by buying a plate or donating to the event, thank you. We owe a special thank you to Captains Galley for donating the slaw. It was the perfect complement to our meal.
