Evans leads LHS wrestlers in region tourney

Bruins' senior wins region title

 The Lancaster High School wrestling team, led by senior grappler Quinshun “Bubba” Evans, had four wrestlers place in the  Region III-AAAA tournament at Fort Mill on Saturday, Feb. 1.

Evans led the LHS contingent, winning the region championship in the 182-pound class. Evans defeated  Rock Hill’s Stephen Chesney 12-5 for his region title.

Scottie Walker, in the 126-pound class, was fourth.

Matt Brazzell, a 120-pound wrestler, was fifth in his weight class. Brandon Mosier, in the 145-pound weight class, finished fifth in his weight class.

The region tournament qualified wrestlers for the Class AAAA Upper State tournament Feb. 21-22 at Laurens High School. 

The top five wrestlers from each weight class earned bids to the Upstate field at Laurens.

Rock Hill led the region teams with 14 wrestlers qualifying for the Upstate tournament, followed by 11 from South Pointe.
