Lindsay Pettus Greenway volunteers will celebrate Earth Day this Saturday with outdoor activities and a “sneak peek walk” along the future greenway’s path.
Events begin at 8:30 a.m. with the Seth’s Hope 5K run/walk at Lancaster High School, and other activities will continue into the afternoon.
“Earth Day just gives us a perfect chance to create an awareness to take care of our area,” said Lisa Hallman, a board member of Lindsay Pettus Greenway and coordinator of Seth’s Hope 5K. “I just think it’s great that we can all come together and promote the health in Lancaster County.”
Registration for the 5K run/walk is at 7:30 a.m. It costs $20 to register, and participants may register up until the race begins.
Different vendors will be on the LHS campus, including a hearing vendor and cholesterol checks, which require eight hours of fasting prior to the test.
There will be food trucks from Taylor’s on Main and Subway.
A speaker series runs from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Speakers are representatives from the Lancaster Farmers Market, Dixie Bee Keepers, Carolina Thread Trail and Department of Natural Resources. Wesley Dry, a local resident who hiked the entire Appalachian Trail, will tell his story.
The event is organized by the Lindsay Pettus Greenway, Eat Smart Move More, Katawba Valley Land Trust, Lancaster County Health and Wellness Commission and Seth’s Hope.
