The Bruins, 10-5, bolted to a 40-4 lead on the way to the 46-34 Region III-AAAA win over Gaffney High School on LHS senior night on Friday night.

“Gabe Campo got us off to a good start with a pin at 132 and then we followed it up with a major decision from Scottie Duncan (138) and a pin from Devonta Montgomery (145),” said LHS coach Leon Boulware, who saw his team improve to 1-2 in region action. “After two region losses, it was good to get a region win and hopefully keep it going.

“I was proud of our seniors who posted six of our wins, with five by pins,” he said. “It was the seniors’ night and they responded for us. They really were pumped up to get a win in their last home match. I was happy for them.”

Campo had a pin along with Devonta Montgomery, Jonathan Barber, Jordan Hamrick and Chris Stevenson.

Scottie Duncan also had a major decision at 138 for the Bruins.

Freshman Adam Varney notched a pin for LHS.

“Having that early success was a key for us because Gaffney was able to finish strong and make it pretty close at the end,” Boulware said, “We were able to get the early lead and kept it.”

Lancaster is idle until Thursday when the Bruins travel to Spartanburg to face the Vikings in a 7 p.m. region match.

On Friday, the Bruins visit Class AAA foe Hartsville High School for a quad match at 6 p.m.
