Dream Team thanks speedway and its drivers

-A A +A

My earliest memory of the Lancaster Motor Speedway was going with my father in his El Camino to the pit to watch the races.
I can sit with him now, and he laughs at the many stories he remembers working as a pit crew member for his friends Don and Tommy Crump. Let’s just say they were beginners. It’s a timeless memory I share with my father, and now, many years later, I have begun to create the same lasting memories with my son.
On Saturday, June 9, Lancaster Motor Speedway hosted a charity night for the Dream Team Foundation. Driving for the Dream was a huge success. We had 30 Dream Team participants and their families attend the festivities.
The Lancaster Speedway Angels is a nonprofit organization that helps speedway drivers and their immediate families in times of hardship and also local charitable organizations. These women planned an exciting and memorable night for the Dream Team participants. Each participant received free admission, a hamburger dinner from concessions, trophies, ice pops, homemade cupcakes, pictures with the LMS Mascot and Lightning McQueen race car, and an introduction to all LMS drivers for autographs and pictures.
To these wonderful women, I would like to say thank you for all of your support and effort put into making this a night to remember. I look forward to working with you again.
Lisa “Sunshine” Sexton, president of the Speedway Angels, and LMS owner Doug McManus presented the Dream Team Foundation with a new racing helmet and a special door panel designed by Justin Starnes. Both were signed by all LMS drivers.
Duane Goins and Michael Knight, we appreciate your support through public advertisement of the event, as well as your commentary during the night. The live auction was such a success due to your involvement.
To all the LMS drivers, all I can really say is God bless you. The Dream Team children beamed when you all came to the stands to meet them. They were so excited, and you made their night even more spectacular. Small gestures of kindness are so very important. You took your time to come and meet them. They will never forget that. I hope they touched your hearts as you touched theirs.
I would like to recognize Matt Harris, Robbie Helms, Jesse Carson and Brandy Baker for donating part of their winnings that night to the Dream Team Foundation.  Also, I want to thank Mike Crump for donating money he raised from the race the week before. The kindness you have all shown is overwhelming and greatly appreciated.
There were so many others who contributed to the success of the evening. I would like to send out a very special thank you to the local businesses, individuals, LMS drivers, their families and all the fans for making this an unforgettable experience for the Dream Team kids.
We hope that you will come out during our 2012-13 season to see what you have helped to continue.
God bless you all.
