A Kershaw woman is dead, and her husband arrested, after an alleged domestic dispute late Monday night, Feb. 11.

Joseph Daniel Hilton, 62, 8992 Old Jefferson Highway, Kershaw, has been charged with murdering his wife, Deborah Faile Hilton, 59, according to a Lancaster County Sheriff’s Office press release.

Deputies were called to the couple’s home at 11:53 p.m. after Joseph Hilton called 911 to report he had shot his wife, the release said.

Soon after deputies arrived, Joseph Hilton surrendered himself to them in the front yard of their home.

Deputies found his wife, Deborah, inside, dead from what appeared to be a single gunshot wound, the release said.

A group of criminal and crime scene investigators responded and examined the scene.

Investigators say information gathered so far has shown that Hilton shot his wife after an argument, the release said. No one else was present at the time of the shooting.

On Tuesday morning, Joseph Hilton was jailed at the Lancaster County Detention Center awaiting a bond hearing in General Sessions court.
