Lancaster County Parks and Recreation Commission Dixie Softball all-star teams open district play tonight in three different divisions at the Rodman Sports Complex in Richburg.

The Darlings stars, ages 7-8, and the Angels stars, ages 9-10, will each launch tournament play at 6 p.m.

The Darlings, led by coach Will Wrenn, face Jefferson to begin play in the five-team tournament. Wrenn guided the Lancaster County Natural Gas team to a 12-0 record and the regular-season and tournament titles this season.

The Angels stars, guided by coach Ellenia Russell, face Chester in their 6 p.m. contest. The Angels district tournament features a five-team field.

Russell piloted C&O Sales to the Angels championship this season with an 8-2 mark.

The Lancaster Ponytails all-stars, ages 11-12, face Chester at 8 p.m. to launch play in the four-team tournament.

Joe Wade, who led AkzoNobel to the county Ponytails regular-season and tournament crowns with an unbeaten record, guides the Lancaster County Ponytails all-stars.

The winners of the double-elimination tournaments advance to the state tournament.

The Darlings and Angels tournaments will be held July 8 in Hartsville.

The Ponytails state tournament begins July 8 in Florence.

“We’ve had a good season and I’m sure our all-star teams will represent us well,” said Scott Caskey, the Lancaster County Parks and Recreation Commission youth softball coordinator. “We wish them the best in the playoffs.”
