Dickson keys BHS to victory

Buford High School senior pitcher Christian Dickson hurled a one-hitter and struck out 14 to pace the Jackets to an 8-1 win over Indian Land in high school baseball play Wednesday.Dickson, in a route job, allowed two walks and an unearned run.Dickson aided his cause with a hit, run batted in and scored a run.The Jackets took a 3-1 lead in the top of the third inning when Donald Kirkley, who had two hits, two RBIs and scored twice, laced a two-run single.The Jackets added three runs in the sixth and two in the seventh inning to seal the seven-run win.Dwayne Ray supplied two hits and drove in two runs for BHS. Dillon Hydrick and Jacob Jamison each had a hit, drove in a run and scored a run. Britt Wells had a double and tallied a run. Gavin Flynn added a hit and scored a run. Joseph Wright walked twice, was hit by a pitch and scored a run.Alex Matzeit had the lone Warriors’ hit.Tyler Watkins, who worked three innings, took the loss.On Monday, the Warriors fell to Nation Ford, 13-2.Matzeit led the IL attack with two hits and drove in a run. Chad Carlton had a hit and drove in a run.Matzeit, who worked three innings, took the loss.Bruins trip TrojansLancaster launched Region III-AAAA baseball play with a 4-1 win over Northwestern at Doomsday Corner on Thursday night.Senior hurler Nick Ferguson tossed a five-hitter over 5.1 innings to key LHS. Ferguson fanned six and allowed a run and two walks to go to 1-0.Evan Byrd notched the save, working 1.2 innings, yielding a hit and a walk. He whiffed two.LHS used the long ball to boost the win. Josh Warfield clubbed a two-run home run in the first and Will Gaston later added a two-run shot for the Bruins.Jimmie Jordan had two hits and Brion Strothers smashed a double. Michael Catoe and Bryan Gainer each had a hit for LHS.Lancaster, 2-3-1, visits York tonight in region play.Buford blanks TrojansBuford evened its softball record at 1-1 with a 2-0 road win over Class AAAA Northwestern on Wednesday.Leslie Pressley’s two-run double in the first inning sparked the Lady Jackets to the victory.Pressley had two hits and drove in a pair of runs.BHS ace hurler Jena Hallman, who fanned 12 in the first four frames, struck out 16 and allowed two hits in squaring her record at 1-1. Hallman walked two.Chandler Baxley had a hit and scored a run for BHS.Lindsey Pressley, Jordan Boone and Hallman each had a hit in the Lady Jackets’ road win.LHS booters winThe Lancaster High boys soccer team posted its first win, blanking Lewisville 4-0 Wednesday at Memorial Stadium.LHS led 2-0 at the break and added a pair of second-half goals for the win.O’Neal Simpson posted the shutout and had solid defensive help from Ethan Kramer and Washington Kofi.Kenny Workman had a goal and an assist for the Bruins. Denico Clyburn, Drew Christensen and Matt White each tallied a goal. Kramer had an assist as did Alex Roach and Jose Murillo.LHS, 1-1-2, visits York tonight in Region III-AAAA play.Lady Bruins fallThe Lancaster High School Lady Bruins fell to 2-1-1, dropping a 4-0 Region III-AAAA road loss to Northwestern of Rock Hill.The Lady Trojans led 1-0 at the break.LHS hosts York in region play tonight at 7, with the junior varsity match at 5:30 p.m.LHS netters fallLancaster dropped its first tennis match of the season, falling to Northwestern 6-1 on Wednesday.The Bruins’ lone win came at No. 2 doubles where Devin Adams and Few Moredock teamed for a 7-6, 6-4 victory.In the junior varsity match, Grayson Snipes of Lancaster notched an 8-2 win.Following are the results:Zimmerman (NW) def.
