A trio of Lancaster County high school football players earned accolades at the weekly meeting of the Founders Federal Tri-County Football Coaches Association on Tuesday.
The three players include Lancaster High School senior linebacker Dawan Thompson along with Andrew Jackson quarterback Daniel Pardue and freshman kicker Tyler Denkins.Each week during the high school regular season, prep coaches from Chester, Lancaster and York counties meet at the Front Porch restaurant in Richburg to honor top performers from the previous week of play in the tri-county area.Thompson, a two-year starter for the Bruins, continued his stellar play this fall in the Bruins’ 28-16 non-region win at York’s Pratt Field.Thompson notched 19 tackles, three sacks, a tipped pass and seven first hits to earn the Division I Defensive Player of the Week.Pardue had a stellar game in the Vols’ non-conference win over county foe Indian Land on Friday when AJ notched a 35-12 win over the host Warriors.Pardue, a Vols’ offensive veteran, hit 14 of 21 passes for 211 yards, three touchdowns and added 35 yards rushing to win the Division II Offensive Player of the Week.Denkins, an AJ freshman, was pressed into special teams duty after the Vols’ regular kicker Tyler Stroud was injured in the pre-game drills.Denkins, in his first varsity outing, stepped up to boot five extra points in the Vols’ 23-point win over IL to win special teams player of the week.Lancaster had several honorable mentions in the Division I balloting, including Jamias Clark (offensive player of the week) and Casey Truesdale (defensive lineman of the week). Clark, a senior running back, netted 129 yards and two scores, including an electrifying 53-yard dash to seal the Bruins’ win over York.Truesdale was also solid from his nose tackle slot, carding eight tackles, two sacks and a quarterback hurry.The Division I winners: Jarrett Neely of Northwestern (offensive player of the week), Ryan Heitkamp of South Pointe (offensive lineman of the week), Rock Hill’s Tae Hinton (defensive lineman of the week) and Brandon Berger (special teams player of the week).Division II winners were Lewisville High School’s Blake Hill, who graded 89 percent as offensive lineman of the week, Jeremy Green with 25 tackles, three tackles for loss as defensive player of the week and Tirrelle Simpson with 18 tackles and a tackle for loss for defensive lineman of the week.Indian Land honorable mentions were: Justin Gordon (offensive player of the week), Sam Seigler (offensive lineman of the week), Chad Carlton (defensive player of the week), Keyadd Miller (defensive lineman of the week) and Mark Gunter (special teams player of the week).Andrew Jackson honorable mentions: Julius Catoe (offensive lineman of the week), Ricky Wilson (defensive player of the week) and Corey Henderson (defensive lineman of the week).Lewisville High honorable mentions: Elijah Johnson (offensive player of the week) and Chris Brett (special teams player).
