County teams in holiday play

County high school basketball teams will be busy after the holiday break, hitting the hardwood in tournament play.

AJ hosts play

The 2011 Comporium Christmas Classic will be held at Andrew Jackson High School on Tuesday and Wednesday.

The participating girls teams are Chesterfield, Buford, North Central and AJ. The boys field includes defending champion Great Falls, Indian Land, Whitmire and AJ.

Play opens Tuesday when Chesterfield faces the Buford girls at 3 p.m. Great Falls meets the Indian Land boys at 4:30.

The opening day evening session begins at 6 when North Central’s girls face AJ. The nightcap at 7:30 has Whitmire battling the AJ boys.

The Wednesday schedule opens at 3 p.m. with the girls consolation game, with the boys consolation game at 4:30.

The girls championship game is set for 6 p.m. and the boys championship game is at 7:30.

Admission is $6 per person.

Only high school league passes will be accepted at the gate.

Bruins play

Lancaster High School basketball teams will be involved in holiday hoops place in two different locals.

The LHS boys will play in the Upward Classic at Dorman High School in Spartanburg starting Tuesday.

The LHS girls of coach Ronnie Robinson will also play in a two-day tournament at Nation Ford High School in Fort Mill.

Coach Ricardo Priester’s Bruins will open play in the Upward Tournament at Dorman High School on Dec. 27 when the Bruins play Chattahoochee High School out of Ga., at 12:30 p.m.

The Cougars are led by Jaron Blossomgame, who has signed with Clemson University.

The four-day tournament continues to Dec. 30 at DHS.

The Lady Bruins return to play in the holiday tournament at Nation Ford High School in Fort Mill where LHS faces Daniel High of Clemson at 6 p.m. on Tuesday.

In the second game, host NFHS will face Shelby, N.C. at 7:30.

Play continues on Wednesday at Nation Ford High School.

BHS boys compete

The Buford High School boys basketball team will also be in action during the holidays.

The Jackets will venture to Cherokee, N.C., where they will play in a tournament at Cherokee High School starting Wednesday and continuing through Friday.
