Trio advances to Manchester Meadows

Lancaster County will send three teams to the S.C. Athletic Programs state tournament in Rock Hill on Dec. 4 after the teams swept to Central District titles at the Melvin L. Steele Soccer Complex on Saturday.

10U all-stars blank Fort Mill, 6-0

The 10-under stars defeated Fort Mill 6-0 as Bryton Davis and Adam Deese each scored a pair of goals in the victory. Austin Catoe and Blaine Gossman each tallied one goal.

Gossman also posted the shutout, aiding a tough defensive effort.

“I’m very proud of the way they represented our county and recreation commission,” said 10U coach Susan Small. “Our offense is quick and our defense is tough and strong.”

The Lancaster County 10-under stars meet the Western District champion on Dec. 4 at 10:30 a.m. at Manchester Meadows in Rock Hill.

12U all-stars notch two wins

The Lancaster County 12-under all-stars won the district championship, posting a pair of wins – 15-0 over Fort Mill and 6-1 over Clover.

The Lancaster 12U stars captured the district title with its 6-1 win over Clover.

Jonathan Monsalvo paced the Lancaster scoring with two goals. Austin Melvin, Garrett Watts and Corey Lucas each tallied one goal.

Peyton Patterson added a goal on a penalty kick.

Austin Melvin, Jacob Annan, Peyton Patterson and Kendra Haddox had one assist each.

The Lancaster defense was sparked by Cody Solesbee with seven stops, with Austin Melvin, Jacob Annan and Peyton Patterson with six stops each.

Defensive contributions by Bailey Penegar, Brianna Richards, Kayla Bailey, Kendra Haddox, Kenzie Faile and Tyler Blackmon held an excellent passing attack by Clover to one goal.

“In the end, communication, teamwork and excellent passing led Lancaster to the two wins and the 2010 SCAP Central District Championship,” said Lancaster 12U coach Joel Patterson.

The Lancaster U-12 stars opened play with a 15-0 win over Fort Mill on Saturday.

Nine different Lancaster players tallied goals in the match, including C.J. Garces (3), Corey Lucas (3), Kenzie Faile (2), Austin Melvin (2). Jonathan Monsalvo, Kendra Haddox, Peyton Patterson, Tayler Blackmon and Tyler Deese each scored one goal.

The Lancaster defense was led by Tyler Deese with six stops.

Bailey Penegar, Cody Solesbee, Garrett Watts, Kayla Bailey, Kiara Cunningham, Peyton Patterson and Tyler Blackmon provided key defensive play in the match.

Nine players also tallied assists in the match, including Jonathan Monsalvo (3), C.J. Garces (2), Austin Melvin, Cody Solesbee, Corey Lucas, Kendra Haddox, Kenzie Faile, Tayler Blackmon and Tyler Deese.

The Lancaster County 12U team advances to the state title match on Dec. 4 at Manchester Meadows in Rock Hill.

Lancaster County faces the Eastern 2 champion at 10 a.m. The winner moves to the state title match at 1 p.m.

The 15-under stars rolled to a 9-0 win over Fort Mill to take the district championship.

Zeke Williams led the offense with three goals. Elijah Roberts and Brian Reynolds netted two goals each.

Zach Schoeppner and Cole Cnesich added one goal each. Jake Barton notched the shutout.

David Roberts praised the play of midfielder Ryan Whitaker in the win.

The U15 stars face the Southern Division champ in the state tournament.

Pee wee stars

In the best-of-three pee wee county tournament, the South all-stars took a 3-1 win over the North at Melvin L. Steele Soccer Complex on Monday night.

The South forged a 2-0 lead at the half. Jyleik Elder tallied a goal from 15 yards out for a 2-0 edge with five minutes to go in the first half.

The South broke on top when Hunter Hinson, on an assist from Grayson Vick, scored midway the first half.

The North answered on a goal by Nolan Plyler early in the second half.

The South sealed the win as Noah Caskey, on a weaving maneuver, scored with five minutes to play.

The South defense was led by Marisa King and Owen Phillips. The North’s defense was paced by Davis Johnson, Erin Brock and Ryan Park.
