The Lancaster County Parks and Recreation small fry all-star football team, ages 9-10, posted its third straight shutout to earn a bid to the Upper State title game on Saturday in Simpsonville.
The Lancaster County small fry stars blanked Tega Cay, 12-0 at Lancaster Memorial Stadium on Monday night, Nov. 26 to capture the Central District championship.
The Lancaster County stars took a 6-0 lead as they drove 60 yards with James White tallying on a 15-yard run with 5:10 to play in the first period.
The Lancaster County stars drove 52 yards on their second possession to forge a 12-0 advantage. Gavin Blackmon’s 34-yard scoring run gave the local stars a 12-0 lead.
The Lancaster defense did the rest as Blackmon and Chase Dougherty each picked off a pass.
Lancaster County smallfry all-star coach Darrell Starnes saluted the play of defensive linemen Dartanyon Drakeford, Jess Mace and Tucker Sellers.
“Our defensive line kept the pressure on Tega Cay and our offensive line did an outstanding job of opening holes for our backs,” Starnes said.
The Lancaster County stars will face Simpsonville at noon on Saturday for the Upstate championship.
The Lancaster County small fry all-stars opened the playoffs with a 28-0 win over Rock Hill Blue all-stars and followed with a 16-0 win over Rock Hill Red all-stars.
