Despite an urgent plea from the county’s fire service, a plan to help recruit and retain volunteer firefighters was defeated following a split-vote decision by Lancaster County Council on Monday, Aug. 26.
Council voted 3-3 on a request to apply for a Federal Emergency Management Agency grant, with Councilmen Jack Estridge, Steve Harper and Bob Bundy dissenting. Councilwoman Charlene McGriff was not at the meeting.
