Dexter Cook sparked the winning team in the annual Rub of the Green golf tournament at the Lancaster Golf Club on Thursday, Oct. 18.

Cook teamed with Laura Crawford, Fred Phipps and Jay Rainey to post a 51.2 to capture the win in the 21-team field.

Cook had the closest-to-the pin on No. 15 and won the Comporium putting contest. Cook’s prize was an Odyssey putter.

“This is the biggest tournament we’ve had in several years,” said Lancaster Chamber of Commerce President Dean Faile, who noted the event drew 17 teams a year ago. “I’d say this was our biggest tournament in the last eight years.”

The runner-up team included Frankie Faile, George Flanders, Bucy Baker and Richard Patterson who teamed for a 53.6.

The third-place team, with a 55.1, included Ben Horn, Tom White, Carl Vincent and Odell Steele.

The last-place team, which carded a 65.6, was the foursome of Steve Sherrill, Rick Jiran, Vickie Porter and Susan Rowell. The last-place team received a coupon for free lessons at the Crow’s Next Driving Range.

“We had a lot of fun and good entertainment was provided,” Faile said.

A highlight was the Think Lancaster First hot air balloon, which drew over 100 riders during the afternoon.

“That was a big hit and capped a good day for us,” Faile said.

Think Lancaster First is a Chamber campaign to shop Lancaster first for a host of services.
