This letter is addressed to all employers in Lancaster County and surrounding counties or anyone who might read this on the Internet.
What ever happened to the word “experience” when hiring someone? Does not a person who had spent more than 30 years working as a mechanic on cars, trucks, electric forklifts and industrial equipment have more knowledge than any high school or most college students fresh after graduation?
As a person who spent 38 years in federal employment I can attest to the fact that it takes years on any job before someone can be trusted to do a job without direct supervision. Not so with an experienced worker, who already earned his stripes for several years. I would implore you to reach out to our military veterans and any and all public sector persons, who are being discriminated against because they left school to seek employment, so as not to be a burden on their family.
Byron N. Couch,
U.S. Navy (Ret)
