The birth of conservatism is the same date as the birth of America. From the Declaration of Independence, “We hold these truths to be self-evident that all men are created equal; that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable rights; that among these are life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness.”
This very statement gives us the three main principles of conservatism, that is, our belief in a creator, in his creation and in God-given moral absolutes.
These are the foundation blocks of our country, our constitution, our courts and laws and also our conservative agenda.
The Republican Party was founded to free the slaves in America, to promote small government and support civil rights legislation for our whole history. Republicans have lost their way recently and have become the party of big government, as opposed to the Democrat Party, which is the party of really, really, really big government.
Big government is needed to control and direct the lives of the people, which does not allow for the individual pursuit of happiness. Rights given by government can be removed as easily as they are given.
On the other side of the spectrum is the Democratic Party, which has always been the party that supported slavery, opposed civil rights legislation, instituted the black codes and Jim Crow laws, supported segregation and the KKK.
Now it is the party of socialism, abortion and homosexual rights. They are for abortion, but not killing terrorists. Democrats are on the wrong side of every issue.
Conservatives are moving again. Our only place to be effective is in the Republican Party so we must move some people off the Republican platform to turn the ship around.
TEA Party people are the conservative movement back into the Republican Party. And yes, most of the TEA Party people are Republicans, but we are conservatives first.
The Democratic Party is the party of abortion. It is also the party that gives special rights to homosexuals (and they are not gay). Republicans believe that they should be allowed to live their lives in peace, but they do not deserve special rights or benefits based on their unhealthy and immoral life choices.
Most Americans identify themselves with the true conservative basics. The Democrats who call themselves conservative need to bail out.
Conservative blue dog Democrats now know that party ideology is more important than being on the right side of an issue.
Barry Goldwater said he would rather be right than president. Truth will prevail. It will pay off in the end.
