GREAT FALLS - Come and experience a banquet that might have been served at a colonial-era tavern at the annual Colonial Banquet sponsored by the Great Falls Home Town Association.
The seventh annual banquet and auction will be held at the Great Falls War Memorial Building on May 2. Proceeds will benefit the work of the GFHTA.
The event will begin with a reception at 6:30 p.m., followed by dinner at 7 p.m.
In the larger cities, elegant taverns served some of the finest food in the colonies.
Taverns in Charleston, Boston and Philadelphia hosted the nation’s founding fathers as they made decisions about breaking away from Great Britain.
Recipes from some of these taverns, such as City Tavern in Philadelphia, will be served.
After the meal, a live auction will be held featuring a wide variety of items, including art work, hand-crafted items, bed and breakfast stays and antiques.
Before and during dinner, 18th century period music will be presented by Alexander’s Old Field Band and singers. A wide variety of musical instruments will be used in the performance.
This year the chef will be Russ White, who has chosen a number of recipes of 18th century tavern fare.
Reservations should be made by April 28.
A donation of $30 per person is asked for the event, with checks being made out to the Great Falls Home Town Association.
A limited number of spaces are available.
Call (803) 482-2370 to make reservations.
