GREAT FALLS – Come experience a banquet that might have been served at a colonial-era tavern at the seventh annual Colonial Banquet sponsored by the Great Falls Home Town Association.

The banquet and auction will be held at the Great Falls War Memorial Building on July 18. It will  benefit the work of the GFHTA. The event will begin with a reception at 6:30 p.m. followed by dinner at 7 p.m.

In the larger cities, elegant taverns served some of the finest food in the colonies.

Taverns in Charleston, Boston and Philadelphia hosted America’s founding fathers as they were making decisions about breaking away from the rule of Great Britain. Recipes from some of these taverns such as City Tavern in Philadelphia will be served.

After the meal, a live and silent auction will be held. It will feature a wide variety of items, including art work, hand-crafted items, bed and breakfast stays and antiques.

Before and during dinner, 18th century music will be presented by Alexander’s Old Field Band and singers. A variety of musical instruments will be used in the performance.

This year the chef will be Russ White, who has chosen a number of recipes of 18th century tavern fare.

The banquet is a little later this year than it has been because of renovations to the War Memorial Building.

Reservations must be made by July 14.

A donation of $30 per person is asked for the event, with checks being made out to the Great Falls Home Town Association.

A limited number of spaces are available.
