INDIAN LAND – Indian Land residents should have a plethora of options for their medical needs when a new medical center opens next month.
The CMC-Carolina Lakes Medical Plaza is set to open May 5 at 7666 Charlotte Highway. It’s located a few miles south of Sun City Carolina Lakes and Carolina Commons Shopping Center.
Kevin McCarthy, spokesman for Carolina Medical Center in Charlotte, said the practices that will operate in the building include Barnett Family Practice, the Sanger Clinic/Charlotte Cardiology Associates and Mecklenburg Medical Group.
McCarthy said by grouping a variety of medical practices in one location, families can meet all their needs at one time.
The Indian Land location will include physicians who specialize in cardiology, geriatrics, oncology, internal and family medicine.
The plaza will also offer such services as a pacemaker clinic, an on-site laboratory, X-rays and vascular testing.
Several of the practices have already been gearing up for the grand opening.
“They’ve been taking appointments for some time, but will open officially on May 5,” McCarthy said.
Once the plaza officially opens, all the practices will be open Monday through Friday, from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
“Given its location to the Carolina Lakes retirement community, I think this would be a good mix to meet that community’s needs,” McCarthy said.
There are several similar plazas across the area, including ones in Mint Hill and South Park.
McCarthy said CMC is opening these centers in an effort to provide services in areas other than Charlotte.
“This is part of an overall strategy to move medical services closer to where people live, so they don’t have to go far to get their needs met,” McCarthy said. “We plan to have these facilities in areas that are somewhat removed from the city area.”
