Churches celebrate Holy Week

Many area churches will host special worship services between today and Sunday to celebrate Maundy Thursday, Jesus’ last meal with his disciples, Good Friday, Jesus crucifixion, and His resurrection on Easter Sunday. Here is a look at where they are so you can make plans to attend the services of your choice.

Today

- Greater New Hope Christian Center, 1721 Wadell Stinson Road, will hold Holy Week revival at 7 p.m. through Friday. The theme is Women of the Word.

- St. Luke United Methodist Church, 128 Providence Road, will hold a Lenten service at 7 p.m.

Thursday

- First United Methodist Church, 200 W. Gay St., will present “The Living Last Supper,” a Maundy Thursday worship service and drama, at 7 p.m. For details, call 283-8406.

- Heath Springs Baptist Church, 101 S. Main St., Heath Springs, will hold a Tenebrae service at 7 p.m.

- Pleasant Dale Baptist Church, 133 S. Potter Road, will hold a Maundy Thursday service at 7 p.m.

- Reformation Lutheran Church, 508 N. French St., will hold a Maundy Thursday service at 7 p.m.

- St. Luke United Methodist Church, 128 Providence Road, will hold a Maundy Thursday service at 7 p.m.

- Tabernacle United Methodist Church, 5908 Tabernacle Road, will hold a Maundy Thursday communion service at 7:30 p.m.

- The Church of the Good Shepherd, 1005 University Drive will hold Maundy Thursday service at 7 p.m. For details, call 285-4577.

Friday

- DeKalb Baptist Church, 2034 School Road, Camden, will present an outdoor Easter drama at 7:30 p.m.

- Reformation Lutheran Church, 508 N. French St., will hold a Good Friday service at 7 p.m.

- St. Luke United Methodist Church, 128 Providence Road, will hold a Good Friday service at 7 p.m.

- Sherwood Baptist Church, 1030 Darlene Blvd., will show “The Passion of the Christ” at 7 p.m. The movie is free, but children under 17 must be accompanied by a parent or guardian The movie is rated R because it contains graphic sequences of violence.

- Tabernacle United Methodist Church, 5908 Tabernacle Road, will hold a Good Friday service at 7 p.m.

Saturday

- DeKalb Baptist Church, 2034 DeKalb School Road, Camden, will present an outdoor Easter drama at 7:30 p.m.

- Heath Springs Baptist Church, 101 S. Main St., Heath Springs, will host an Easter egg hunt, at 10 a.m. Saturday.

- Osceola United Methodist Church, 6575 Charlotte Highway, will host an Easter egg hunt at 1 p.m. Bring your own basket and refreshments will be served.

- Reformation Lutheran Church, 508 N. French St., will hold a vigil of Easter service at 8 p.m.

- St. Luke United Methodist Church, 128 Providence Road, will host an Easter egg hunt at 10 a.m.

- Tabernacle United Methodist Church, 5908 Tabernacle Road, will host an Easter egg hunt at noon. Bring three eggs to hide filled with non-chocolate candy or a small toy.

- The Church of the Good Shepherd, 1005 University Drive, will host an Easter egg hunt at 1 p.m. For details, call 285-4577.

- Zion United Methodist Church, 1665 Zion Road, will host an Easter egg hunt at 2 p.m. Bring a basket and refreshments will be served.

Sunday

- Community Easter sunrise service at 7 a.m., Andrew Jackson State Park amphitheater, U.S. 521 North; For details, call (803) 547-4117.

- Douglas Presbyterian Church Choir, 2325 Easter Place, will present the Easter cantata, “Lamb of God” at 10:30 a.m. For details, call 283-8327.

- Heath Springs Baptist Church, 101 S. Main St., Heath Springs, will hold an Easter sunrise service at 7 a.m. at the fish hatchery, 5290 Fish Hatchery Road, followed by breakfast at 7:30 a.m., Sunday school at 9 a.m. and morning worship at 10 a.m.

- Jones Crossroads Baptist Church, 3107 Oakland Drive, will hold an Easter sunrise service at 7 a.m., followed by breakfast.

- New Life Freewill Baptist Church, 1622 Springdale Road, will present the Easter drama “New Again” at 11 a.m. For details, call 320-1481.

- New Horizon Community Church, 1906 Great Falls Highway, will present the dramas “My Chains Are Gone” and “Arise My Love” at 9:30 a.m. For details, call 283-2882.

- Pleasant Dale Baptist Church, 133 S. Potter Road, will hold an Easter sunrise service at 7 a.m., followed by breakfast at 7:30 a.m., Sunday school at 8:30 a.m. and morning worship at 9:45 a.m.

- St. Luke United Methodist Church, 128 Providence Road, will hold an Easter sunrise service at 7:30 a.m. and morning worship at 10:30 a.m.

- Reformation Lutheran Church, 508 N. French St., will hold an Easter Sunday breakfast at 9 a.m., followed by an Easter egg hunt at 9:30 a.m. and a Resurrection of the Lord service at 10:30 a.m.

- Tabernacle United Methodist Church, 5908 Tabernacle Road, will hold an Easter sunrise service at 7 a.m., followed by breakfast and a traditional worship service at 11 a.m.

- Taylors Grove Baptist Church, 2382 Charlotte Highway, will hold an Easter sunrise service at 7 a.m., followed by breakfast at 7:30 a.m., Sunday school at 8:30 a.m. and the morning worship service and the Easter cantata, “Rise Again” at 9:30 a.m.
