Class AAA Chester captured five weight classes to notch the title in the annual Warrior Invitational tournament at Indian Land High School on Saturday afternoon.

The Cyclones’ K.J. Dixon, Chester’s ace 171-pounder, earned the Most Outstanding Wrestler for his effort in the tournament which opened Saturday morning.

Dixon highlighted his mat effort with three pins during the tournament.

The Cycs were also paced by Lewis Graham (103), Terrence Gore (112), Dominick Davis (145) and Corey Ervin (189).

“We wrestled Chester last week and I had an idea they would be in contention for the tournament title,” Indian Land wrestling coach Herb Johnson said. “I felt it would probably come down to Chester, York and Sumter for the top spot. Chester is a talented and tough wrestling team and we felt this was a quality field in here for our tournament.”

The Cyclones topped the 12-team field with 224.5 points. York, with 180.5, was second, with Sumter third, 176.

The rest of the field included Sun Valley, 156; South Mecklenberg, 141.5; Buford, 125; Northwestern, 100; Indian Land, 94; Providence Day, 91; Broome, 87; Clover, 55; and Charlotte Christian, 39.

Tournament host Indian Land was eighth, two notches below county foe Buford. The Warriors were paced by Rondreas Truesdale (160) and Marc Morris (275). Jared Smith, at 125, placed third in his weight class.

“Each of our Indian Land winners beat quality foes,” Johnson said.
