A group of Lancaster police officers canvassed the area in front of a check cashing business minutes after it was robbed by a man with a gun Thursday afternoon, Sept. 19.
According to an officer at the scene, a female employee was confronted by a man with a handgun at about 4:37 p.m. inside Check Into Cash, 1232 S.C. 9 Bypass West. The business is located in the Lancer Square shopping center, in between Hibbett Sports and two vacant storefronts.
The officer said the woman was held up at a cash register, though the amount of money stolen was unknown Thursday afternoon.
“She’s shaken, but OK,” the officer said. “Hopefully we’ll have more information soon.”
Two unmarked police cars were parked in front of the business, with their side blue lights flashing.
One officer, with his badge slung across his chest, was seen speaking in the parking lot with two people associated with the check cashing business. The employees declined to comment and referred all questions to the business’ corporate headquarters.
According to police radio traffic, the man is described as 6 feet tall, weighing 200 pounds, wearing all black and a black ski mask. The man reportedly fled the scene in a green SUV, though the type of vehicle and the direction he was traveling were unknown Thursday.
