A Charlotte man was killed when he ran off the road on his motorcycle and hit a guardrail on U.S. 521 on Saturday.
William Desch, 55, was pronounced dead on arrival at Springs Memorial Hospital by Deputy Coroner Shannon Evans, who said Desch died of blunt force trauma.
The crash happened about 12 miles north of Lancaster. S.C. Highway Patrol Lance Cpl. Jeff Gaskin said Desch was headed north on U.S. 521 on a 2004 Harley-Davidson motorcycle about 9:35 a.m. when he ran off the right side of the road and hit a guardrail.
Desch was thrown from the motorcycle, Gaskin said. He was wearing a helmet. Lancaster County EMS transported Desch to the hospital.
Troopers believe Desch was driving too fast for conditions. Alcohol was not a factor in the crash.
