Case column: Case makes his case for sheriff’s office

-A A +A

Scott R. Case is the Republican candidate for Lancaster County sheriff.

would like to take this opportunity to speak with the residents of Lancaster County in regards to my candidacy for the office of Lancaster County sheriff. I am a lifelong resident of Lancaster County. After obtaining my high school diploma, I pursued an education in higher learning, where I obtained degrees in business and management.

At that point in my life, I felt compelled to enlist in our armed services and joined the U.S. Navy to serve our country. I completed five years of military service, during which time I was deployed in Desert Storm, the Bosnia peacekeeping mission and counter drug operations in Central America.

I then returned home to Lancaster County to continue my life. Using this education and life experience, I began a career in the manufacturing industry, where I advanced into managerial positions. I continued this career path for more than 10 years until I decided to pursue a career as a law enforcement officer.

I obtained employment with the police department for the town of Great Falls. I successfully completed the S.C. Criminal Justice Academy and received state certification as a full-time law enforcement officer. I began my service as a night shift patrolman and have since risen to the rank of command staff lieutenant and investigator for the police department.

My desire to serve our diverse communities of Lancaster County has led me to offer my experience and talents to lead this county and the sheriff’s office to reduce crime rates and improve community relations, which will result in better quality of life for our residents.

If elected, I hope to increase community involvement and support, by establishing community-specific citizen advisory boards comprised of residents selected by their individual communities. I will personally meet with each board in its respective community on a regular basis to discuss the specific issues of that area. I will bring life back to the satellite offices now in use that allow residents a convenient location to meet with sheriff’s office employees. I will restructure the sheriff’s office to best allocate its resources and personnel to effectively and consistently reduce and solve criminal issues.

A major crimes unit will be established, utilizing current and future experienced personnel and will be maintained by the sheriff’s office during my tenure. The unit’s sole responsibility will be to aggressively address the county’s violent crime. Relationships will continue to be built with all state, local and federal authorities so those resources are made available to Lancaster County. I will pride myself on being a good steward of the county’s tax dollars. I will openly and conveniently make available to the community expenditures of monies allotted to the sheriff’s office.

Life experience has molded me into the man that I am. These experiences have built me into a leader. I would be honored to hold the office of sheriff for Lancaster County, to stand for honor, integrity and respect. I will hold myself personally accountable to all residents of our great county. Our county deserves the very best in public safety. If elected, I can and will lead our community into an environment of awareness and the Lancaster County Sheriff’s Office into a new era of preparedness for public safety. I thank you for your consideration and support on Nov. 6.
