INDIAN LAND – No students were injured in a school bus accident Friday, April 26, on Shelley Mullis Road.
The accident occurred about 7:30 a.m. when the eastbound bus stopped to pick up Indian Land Middle and High School students in front of the Highland Creek neighborhood, Lancaster County School District Safety and Transportation Director Brian Vaughn said.
“There was a Volkswagen Passat that basically just hit (the bus) in the rear,” Vaughn said. “Did a lot of damage to the Volkswagen; minimal damage to the bus, but the Volkswagen was likely totaled.”
None of the 10 students aboard the bus were injured, Vaughn said, and were transported to school on another bus after district officials notified their parents of the accident.
The driver of the Volkswagen, 44-year-old Susan Hamill of East Arrow Lake Court, was carried by ambulance to Carolinas Medical Center in Pineville, according to the accident report.
Hamill’s condition was not immediately available from CMC, though Vaughn said it was his understanding she was not seriously injured and was transported as a precautionary measure.
On the accident report, Hamill was cited as contributing to the accident.
