Bruins top Vols in 7-3 win

The surging Lancaster Bruins improved to 11-10 overall with a 7-3 road win over county foe Andrew Jackson on Monday.

Trai Sanders, 4-3, hurled the win, going five frames. He allowed four walks, three hits and struck out two.

Jordan Brock worked the final two innings, posting three strikeouts. He allowed a hit and no walks.

Adam Eubanks, who worked four innings, took the loss.

Khory Phillips rapped two hits, including a double, walked twice and scored two runs. Grayson Snipes and Wyatt Duncan each had two hits and scored a run.

Brien Clyburn chipped in a hit and drove in three runs. Eric Mojica had a run-scoring double.

Tyler Rodgers led the Vols with a two-run home run and Bobby Delly drilled a double.

Lancaster opens postseason play as the Bruins travel to Blythewood to face the Bengals in a 6:30 p.m. clash Thursday.

The winner of the LHS vs. Blythewood game meets the winner of the T.L. Hanna vs. J.L. Mann game, with the two losers to meet.

AJ travels to Gilbert for its Class AA Upper playoff opener on Thursday.

Jackets fall to Red Devils

Buford dropped its regular-season baseball finale, falling to Class A baseball foe Great Falls High, 13-12 on Monday at Buford Park.

Logan Segee went 1.2 frames and allowed seven runs, none earned. Colt Ellis hurled two frames and allowed a run, walk and fanned four. Ricky Lewis, in an inning, yielded three runs, two hits and three walks. Kholby Pate, in 1.1 innings, gave up two runs, two hits and three walks. He whiffed four.

Cody Gordon, in an inning, yielded a hit and a walk. He fanned one.

Ellis led the BHS offense with two hits and a RBI. Segee had a hit, scored three runs and drove in a run. Collin Plyler belted a three-run home. Ricky Lewis and Brett Estridge each had a hit, RBI and scored a run. Marcus Broadway had a hit, stolen base and scored a run. Skylar King and Seth Chapman each had a hit. Kendrick Trapps scored two runs and had a stolen base. Jacob Jamison tallied a run and had a stolen base. Kendall Knight, Zack Wright and Pate each tallied a run.

The Jackets host Columbia on Thursday at 6 p.m. in the Class AA Upper State playoffs.

Softball playoffs

 The Lancaster Lady Bruins, the second seed in Region III-AAAA, face T.L. Hanna of Anderson in the opening round of the Class AAAA Upper State softball playoffs on Thursday.

If LHS wins and Greenwood wins over Boiling Springs, the Lady Bruins will play at Greenwood on Friday. If Boiling Springs wins, the LHS girls will host Boiling Springs on Friday.

 Buford will open the Class AA Upper State playoffs as the Lady Jackets play Thursday. BHS was awaiting the outcome of a special play-off game Tuesday night to decide its first-round foe.

Andrew Jackson will host either Batesburg-Leesville or Strom Thurmond.

Clover edges LHS soccer

The No. 8 Clover Lady Blue Eagles scored an overtime goal to lift CHS to a hard-fought 2-1 soccer win over Lancaster in a Region III-AAAA match at Memorial Stadium.

The match was actually played April 5, but play was suspended with an injury to a CHS player. Play was resumed with five minutes to play in the match and regulation ended in a 1-1 draw.

Late in regulation, LHS appeared to be in position for a go-ahead goal as Frances Whitesides had a breakaway, but a Clover defender was able to prevent the score.

Later in the first OT, Clover’s Samantha Prytulak scored on a breakaway for what proved to be the decisive tally.

The LHS girls host Northwestern on Tuesday, while the Bruins visited Northwestern. The LHS boys host Rock Hill on Friday, while the Lady Bruins visit Rock Hill.

IL softball wins

The Indian Land Lady Warriors’ softball team prepared for the Class AA Upper State playoffs, taking a 10-5 win over Class A foe Lewisville on Monday.

Beth Martin, 1-0, was the winner. Martin aided her cause with a pair of hits.

Alli Yarborough drilled four hits, including a double, and drove in a run. Alex Greenawalt rapped three hits, including two doubles, and had a RBI.

Haley Vachon laced two hits, including a double, and drove in a run. Kayla Price had two hits and a RBI.

Elizabeth Myers rapped a triple and drove in a run.

Kelly Pauls produced a double and a RBI. Kelsi Funk had a hit and drove in a run. Katie Jowers added an RBI.

The Lady Warriors, 8-10, 4-7, open the playoffs on Thursday when they travel to Gilbert for a first-round playoff game in the Class AA Upper State playoffs.

Lady Warriors soccer win

The eighth-ranked Indian Land Lady Warriors improved to 8-1-1 in regular-season prep soccer play with a 3-1 home win over Class A foe Lewisville on Monday night.

 Shalyn Dougherty, Raquel Addamo and Emma Gladu each tallied a goal for the Lady Warriors. IL had 18 shots on goal to four for the Lady Lions. Warriors’ keeper Kaitlin Lusk made three saves.
