The Lancaster High School soccer teams notched a pair of tough wins over county foe Andrew Jackson on Monday night at Memorial Stadium.

The LHS girls opened the home sweep with a 3-0 win over Andrew Jackson and the Bruins posted a 1-0 victory over the Vols.

In the nightcap, the Bruins used an alert play to notch the match’s lone score.

The first half was scoreless and two minutes into the second half, the Bruins’ Abel Delfin attempted a long shot which hit the crossbar and LHS’s Chad drilled the ricochet into the net for what turned out to be the only goal.

“We got caught flat-footed and weren’t in position,” AJ coach Marc Truesdale said. “We’re still a good, sound team.”

Matthew Johnston notched the shutout, his second straight blank job after LHS defeated Clover 1-0 on Friday in region play at Memorial Stadium.

AJ, rated seventh in the latest Class AA state poll, did have a shot to tie the match, but Joseph Harris’ attempt was wide right after he beat the goalie.

In the girls match, Lancaster took a 3-0 win as Morgan Farrar had a goal and an assist in the win.

LHS took a 1-0 lead as Sedona Smith dribbled through the AJ defense for a goal.

Frances Whitesides gave the Lady Bruins a 2-0 edge as she scored off an assist from Farrar.

Farrar’s goal came when she put the ball in the net off a Mary Beth White corner kick.

“We didn’t have the intensity we need,” LHS coach Bo Sylvia said.

He added Lancaster was bolstered by the play of Whitesides.

Junior keeper Tarah Tipton notched the shutout for the Lady Bruins.
