Bruins sweep AJ booters

The Lancaster High School soccer team posted a pair of road wins over Class AA county rival Andrew Jackson on Wednesday, April 2 at Volunteer Stadium,

The Bruins edged the Vols, 3-2 in a tight match, while the Lady Bruins notched a 4-0 win over the Lady Volunteers.

The LHS boys  soccer team plays in a tough Class AAAA region and even though they had some close games, they were not able to win a game until Wednesday night at AJ.

It was not easy as the match went into two 5-minute overtimes and a shootout.

Lancaster forged a 2-0 halftime lead on goals from Zeke  Williams and Christian Garces.

AJ charged back in the second half, with goals from Trent Bartell and Zach Arioli to tie the score at 2-2. McKenzie Denkins assisted on both AJ goals.

After neither team scored in the two OTs, the match was decided by penalty kicks, and Lancaster prevailed 3-2.

Zeke Williams, Kiki Tarque and Jonathan Monsalvo converted on the LHS penalty kicks.

The match was very even as the score indicates. AJ had five shots at goal to seven for LHS.

Lancaster had five corner kicks to only three for AJ.

AJ played at  Columbia High on Thursday, April 3.

Lancaster visits South Pointe in Rock Hill on Friday, April 4.

In the LHS girls’ match with AJ, Peyton Patterson scored two goals, one on a corner kick from Frances Whitesides. Patterson scored again on a Whitesides’ assist.

Whitesides tallied the first goal on a pass from Brooke Humphrey.

Jesse Dukes, off a Whitesides’ assist, tallied in the second half for the LHS girls.

On Tuesday, April 2, Lancaster, 7-3, 4-2, capped a first-ever season’s sweep of Nation Ford of Fort Mill with a 2-0 win over the Lady Falcons.

Frances Whitesides tallied on a Peyton Patterson pass, and Patterson later scored on a Whitesides’ assist.

Effie Spears posted the shutout with six saves.

Lancaster visits Rock Hill on Monday in region play.

Jackets blast Devils

Buford rolled to a 10-3 baseball win over Great Falls in non-region play on Wednesday, April 2.

Austin Pate paced the BHS attack with two hits, including a two-run home run, and drove in three runs and scored a run.

Evan Flynn had a hit, two RBIs and scored two runs. Scotti Moser supplied a hit, drove in two runs and scored a run.

James Gardner drilled a RBI-double and Druw Rollings had a hit, RBI and tallied a run. Troy Cunningham and Hank Thompson each had a hit.

Daniel Mackey scored a run and drove in a run. Austin Caskey tallied two runs. Johnathan Hill and Kholby Pate each tallied a run.

Trevor Cauthen hurled four innings and allowed no runs, three hits and two walks. He fanned three.

Hill hurled an inning and allowed two runs, an earned run and a hit. Autry Blackmon hurled two frames and gave up a run and two walks. He fanned four.

Cats top Jackets

Blacksburg edged Buford, 11-9 in prep baseball on Tuesday, April 1 at Buford Park.

BHS built a 2-0 edge, but Blacksburg responded with nine runs and held on for the win.

Evan Flynn had two hits, two RBIs and scored a run. James Gardner rapped two hits and tallied a run.

Austin Pate produced a RBI-double and scored a run. Troy Cunningham had a hit, scored twice and drove in a run. Kholby Pate had a hit, RBI and scored a run.

Johnathan Hill and Trevor Cauthen each had a hit. Scotti Moser drove in two runs. Brady Horton and Daniel Mackey each scored a run.

Gage Hinson worked two innings and allowed two hits and a walk, with four strikeouts.

Gardner took the loss in 1.2 innings, allowing eight runs, seven hits and two walks. Trevor Cauthen hurled a third of an inning and yielded two runs, two hits and one earned run. Flynn went two innings and gave up two runs, two earned runs, three hits and a walk. He fanned three. Austin Pate hurled an inning and gave up two walks and a hit. He whiffed three.

Eagles down Vols

Central’s Dante Blakeney clubbed a two-run home run to lift the Eagles to a 3-2 win over AJ at the Volunteers’ field on Tuesday, April 1.

AJ led 2-1 after six before CHS rallied to take the lead and hold on for the win.

Eric Miles, in seven innings, took the loss, allowing seven hits, a walk and hit a batter. He fanned two and picked off three baserunners.

Miles added two hits for the Volunteers. Dustin Eddins had a hit and two RBIs. Austin Wrape added a hit.

AJ visits Buford tonight at 6 in region play.

Lady Vols down LHS

Andrew Jackson completed a season’s softball sweep of Lancaster, taking a 7-2 home win over the Lady Bruins on Wednesday, April 2.

Lindsey Robinson was the winning pitcher, allowing five hits and two walks. She fanned one.

Savannah McKittrick led AJ with a single, double and three RBIs. Hannah Cobb had two doubles and drove in two runs. Kinsley Adams added two doubles and a RBI. Haley Faulkenberry supplied two hits and a RBI.

Rylee Sims and T.G. McCowan each had a hit.

Summer Clinton worked three innings, while Arianna Ealy and Brooke Penegar each pitched two frames.

Ealey led the LHS offense with two hits. Elizabeth Gaston, Kailee Glover and Ashley Abbott each had a hit.

Angela Sims’ two-run single lifted Andrew Jackson to a 6-5 comeback win over Central of Pageland on Tuesday, April 1 in Pageland. Sims drilled two hits and drove home four runs.

Haley Faulkenberry smashed a solo home run to spark the Lady Vols’ rally.

Kinsley Adams had a double and a triple to aid AJ.

Winning hurler Hannah Cobb collected two singles and drove in a run.

Kaitlyn Starnes added a hit.

Cobb, 7-2, fanned four and allowed two walks and five hits in her pitching effort.

 AJ defeated Indian Land, 3-1 on Friday, March 28.

Savannah McKittrick had a hit and drove in a run. Haley Faulkenberry, Hannah Cobb, T.G. McCowan and Rylee Sims each had a hit. Kinsley Adams added two RBIs.

Cobb was the winner, allowing six hits and had two strikeouts.

Alli Yarborough led IL with two hits, including a double. Adrianna Wilson and Gabbie Doyle each had two hits. Kayla Price ripped a double. Savannah Bean added a single.

 AJ topped Chesterfield, 3-2 as Hannah Cobb hurled the win, allowing five hits and a walk. She fanned two. Cobb aided her cause with two hits.

Kinsley Adams had a hit and two RBIs. Angela Sims and Savannah McKittrick each had a hit.

 AJ blanked McBee, 10-0 in a non-region win.

Haley Faulkenberry led AJ with three doubles and three RBIs.

Kinsley Adams had a single, double and a RBI. Morgan Bailey drilled two hits and had a RBI.

Savannah McKittrick had two hits and Hannah Cobb supplied two hits and a RBI.

Angela Sims and Natalie Robertson each had a hit and drove in a run. Rylee Sims added a hit.

Cobb, as the AJ hurler, allowed four hits and a walk.

AJ golfers win

The Andrew Jackson golf team pushed its mark to 9-0, 4-0 in region play, with a 174-196 win over Indian Land at Fort Mill Golf Club on Wednesday, April 2.

AJ’s Logan Sowell and Jared Long of IL each shot a 39 to earn co-medalist honors.

Chandler Norville shot a 44, while Caleb Brown had a 45 and Emily Cox carded a 46.

Tyler Bowers posted a 48 and Mason Sowell had a 49.

AJ faced Central on Thursday, April 3.

Rock Hill tops LHS

The Lancaster High golf team dropped a 167-181 Region III-AAAA loss to Rock Hill High School on Tuesday, April 1.

Brady Hinkle led LHS with a 40.

Baylee Evans, Jason Blakley and Scottie Walker each had a 47 for the Bruins.

Lancaster faced Lewisville High School at the Chester Golf Club on Thursday, April 3.
