Lancaster earned a bid to the Jackets Invitational Preseason tournament championship game with a 77-51 win over tourney host Buford on Monday night.
The Bruins’ 26-point win moved LHS to a rematch of the 2009 tournament title game with Fort Mill.
The Yellow Jackets moved on with a 59-36 victory over Lakewood.
Due to holiday deadlines, the Lancaster-Fort Mill game and all games played Tuesday will be in the Friday edition of The Lancaster News.
Lancaster, rated No. 5 in Class AAAA, ignited in the second half to take the win over BHS.
The Bruins owned a 37-24 halftime lead, and used a 25-13 third-period run to take control.
“I thought we played well and executed,” LHS coach Ricardo Priester said. “Buford played hard and we knew we had to match that intensity. Coach Couch does a good job with that team.”
Lancaster was tough on the perimeter, netting 13 treys, with Nate Bush, who hit a team-high 20, making six threes.
“Lancaster shot the ball well and we didn’t hit our shots,” Buford coach Neil Couch said. “It just came down to that. I thought we executed well the things we’ve worked on in practice, but Lancaster made a few more plays tonight.”
Bush led 2-0 LHS with 20. Sindarius Thornwell tallied 15 and Allen Robinson chipped in 14 points. Ron Trapps scored 13.
Quay Duncan followed with eight. Forrest Woodard had three. Jaquarius Montgomery and Derae Montgomery added two points each.
Logan Segee and Marcus Brown each hit 10 to lead Buford. Qua Truesdale scored seven and Jacob Jamison added six. Desmond McGriff generated five and Dee Williams finished with four points.
Jonathan Soliman scored three. Brett Estridge, Seth Chapman and Mikeem McKinney tallied two each.
Brown grabbed six rebounds and Segee had five boards.
Fort Mill stayed unbeaten with its 59-36 win over Lakewood. Coach Bailey Jackson’s Jackets, ranked No. 3 in Class AAA, led 8-6 after one period, and went on an 18-11 second period surge to take a 26-17 lead at the break and stayed in control. Stephen Auslander led FM with 17 and Rion Heriot hit 15 for the Yellow Jackets.
Quinton Amos led the Gators with nine. Calvin Hudson and Dequon Dwyn added six points each.
In the consolation round, Indian Land and AJ each fell in their second tournament games.
North Central topped AJ 49-37 as the Knights, who led 20-14 at the half, used a 9-0 run to take control in the third period for a 34-25 edge.
Tevin Alexander paced the Knights with 12 and Christian Henderson hit eight.
Dustin Eddins led AJ with nine and Drew Gardner scored eight. Tremaine Jackson finished with five. Robert Massey and Quad Fair each scored four.
Wade Eubanks had three and Chris Harris hit two. Chris White and Quincy Grier each added one point.
Indian Land also dipped to 0-2 in tournament play, dropping a 62-53 loss to Lewisville. Indian Land broke to a 14-3 lead after one and led 29-25 at the half.
The Knights launched a 12-1 run to open the second half as Lewisville outscored IL 18-9 in the pivotal period to gain control of the contest.
Jarrell Robinson led IL with 14 and Rashid McGriff added 11. Darnell Rogers chipped in 10. Hayden Sawyer scored eight and Drew Richardson chipped in six.
Tyler Watkins had three and Marty Cauthen chipped in one.
S.C. State signee Cortrell Busby led the Lions with 26, 16 in the first half. Qua Wall and Zach Carter added nine points each.
Lancaster ignited in the third period to take an 87-61 win over Indian
Land on Saturday night to open play in the Jackets Preseason Invitational at the Buford High School gym.
LHS, up 20-12, after one period, took a 42-32 lead at the break.
After the half, the Bruins used a 24-13 surge to gain a 66-45 lead on the way to the 26-point win.
Senior Ron Trapps led four Bruins in double figures with 23. Nate Bush netted 19 and Sindarius Thornwell tallied 17.
Alan Robinson added 13. Quay Duncan scored seven and Forrest Woodard added six. Jaquarius Montgomery added two.
Hayden Sawyer scored 19 to lead the Warriors and Drew Richardson added 16.
Rashid McGriff finished with 13. Terrell Rodgers hit nine.
Marty Cauthen chipped in two. Tyler Watson and Eric Brock added one point each.
Buford outscored Lewisville 21-15 in the third period to take control on the way to a 65-53 win over Lewisville to open play in the Jackets Preseason Invitational.
Buford led 26-24 at the break and extended its edge to 44-38 at the half before breaking open the game in the third period.
Logan Segee hit 25 points and grabbed nine rebounds to boost the Jackets.
