An 18-year-old Carmel Road resident died in a one-vehicle accident Thursday night on Grace Avenue.
Johntavis Lamar Campbell was pronounced dead at the scene from head injuries, Lancaster County Coroner Mike Morris said.
Campbell was a passenger in a 1999 Infiniti that ran off the road and struck a tree, according to the S.C. Highway Patrol. The accident happened at 11:20 p.m., about a mile west of the Lancaster city limits.
The driver, a 17-year-old Lancaster teen, was flown to Carolinas Medical Center in Charlotte.
He wasn't wearing a seat belt, Cpl. Bryan McDougald of the Highway Patrol said.
The driver's name isn't being released because of his age, McDougald said.
The Infinite was traveling north around a 35-mph curve when it ran off the right side of the road, overturned and hit a tree, McDougald said.
No further information was available Frida, including what may have led to the wreck or whether Campbell was wearing a seat belt. The Highway Patrol continues to investigate the wreck.
Three deaths on Grace Avenue
Campbell is the third person to die in a vehicle accident on Grace Avenue within a week.
Early Monday, Kayla Faile, 18, and Jason Flynn, 33, were killed after the motorcycle they were riding hit a pickup truck.
Flynn, who was driving the motorcycle, was trying to pass the truck when it made a left turn in front of them, according to the Highway Patrol.
That case remains under investigation.
