A 13-year-old Lancaster boy was hit in the head with a baseball bat when he tried to stop a group of boys from stealing his bicycle Sunday.

The boy noticed the bike was missing from the front porch of his Pardue Street home about 11 p.m. and went around the back and saw about five boys gathered near it, according to a Lancaster Police Department incident report.

One of the boys took the bicycle and another grabbed the 13 year old, pushing him on the ground and rolling him down a hill. The boy was then hit on the head with a bat, punched in his abdomen and kicked in the side, the report said.

The injured boy ran back to the house and told his mother, who called police.

He was left with a head contusion and bruises on his body, Capt. Harlean Howard said. A knot left behind his ear was the size of a quarter, the report said.

Howard said no arrests have been made.
