Bluefins place 5th in meet

BridgeMill team ends the season 2-1-4

The BridgeMill Bluefins wrapped up their season with a fifth-place finish in the All-Star Meet at Mecklenburg Aquatics Center Uptown. 

Springfield came in first, followed by Blakeney in second, Providence Downs South third, Charlotte Christian, BridgeMill, Lake Park, Crismark and Fairmeadows in Division 6 of the 69-team Greater Charlotte Swim League.

BridgeMill’s all-star winners were:

• Emma Jette, who won the girls 15-18 50m freestyle and 100m medley

• Gunnar Redd, who won the boys 9-10 25m backstroke

• Baileigh Sizemore, who won the girls 9-10 25m breaststroke

• Tiffany Cutrone, who won the girls 15-18 50m breaststroke

• Jack Fitch, Mark Ortiz, Michael Ortiz and Gunnar Redd, who won the boys 10–under 100m freestyle relay

• Tiffany Cutrone, Erica Krul, Rebecca Jette, Emma Jette, who won the girls 18–under 200m freestyle relay

“We had a great season and can’t wait to see what the 2012 swim season has in store,” BridgeMill head coach Marley Cole said. “I want to personally thank my assistant coaches, wonderful parent volunteers, gracious sponsors and all the amazing swimmers for a great season.”

The team’s sponsors were Founders Federal Credit Union, First South Mortgage, Bird Orthodontics, Shamrock Landscaping Inc., Harris Teeter, Donato’s Pizza and Jersey Mike’s. 

The team lost its final regular meet June 30 to Providence Downs South, 488-308.  

The Bluefins ended the season with a 2-1-4 record.  

The team celebrated the end of its season with a party Sunday evening with pool games, coach-led relays and sub sandwiches. 

 Ribbons, medals and other awards were presented.
